Fostering Greyhounds: A Journey of Love, Loss, and New Beginnings

I’ve been fostering greyhounds on and off for several years now, and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Along the way, we fell in love with one of our beautiful foster girls so much that we couldn’t bear to let her go. We adopted her, and after a long, happy life together, it was time to say goodbye when she crossed the rainbow bridge.

After taking some time to grieve, the next step was clear—we were ready to foster again. And so, we returned to fostering through BTG, and we are now caring for our 12th foster girl, June.

BTG is an incredible organization, and you can truly feel the passion and dedication behind everything they do. From the moment you get involved, they provide you with everything you need to ensure the best possible experience, and no question is ever too small to ask. It’s more than just an adoption service—it’s a community of people who genuinely care about the greyhounds and work together to help them find their forever homes.

Fostering has been such a joy for my kids. For them, it’s like having the “excited over a new puppy” feeling every time we welcome a new foster into our home. They love watching each greyhound discover new experiences and seeing their individual personalities shine. As much as they always steal your heart, it’s incredibly rewarding to see these beautiful dogs move on to their forever families, where they can live out the rest of their lives surrounded by love and care.

Before fostering, I had never met a greyhound, but now I can’t imagine a more wonderful breed to work with. I couldn’t recommend fostering through BTG more—it’s an experience that brings so much joy, fulfillment, and love, and it’s something I’ll continue to cherish forever.

Thinking of fostering a greyhound? The experience is more than worth it—you’ll change a life, and it’ll change yours too.
